Metabolic syndrome

Metabolic syndrome

Metabolic syndrome is the medical name for a combination of diabetes, high blood pressure and obesity.

Having two or all three together damages the blood vessel even more and puts you at greater risk of heart diseases and stroke. Normally with the metabolic syndrome there is also a presence of high triglycerides and low levels of good HDL cholesterol which increases the risk of atherosclerosis.

Everyone with metabolic syndrome is advised to keep their cholesterol at healthy levels as the strains on the blood vessels are high with metabolic syndrome.  Keeping active, eating healthy and perhaps losing weight is key to avoid the condition becoming ever more serious.

Beta-glucans in oat and barley naturally lowers cholesterol, incorporating these grains in your daily diet is a great step towards a healthy life. In order to get the cholesterol-lowering effect of beta-glucan you need a daily amount of 3g every day. It can be a bit tricky to get this into your diet with normal oat products. As an example, you would have to eat 3 big servings of porridge every day. This would also mean a large amount of fast carbohydrates that would have a negative effect on your blood sugar.

In order to get the right amount of beta-glucan without the added carbs and carbohydrates, there’s Betaviv. A crispy oat heart cereal that guarantees the right amount and quality of beta-glucan to actively lower both cholesterol and blood sugar.
